Smartmatic had only provided voting technology in Los Angeles County and has no relationship to Dominion, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Dominion also sued Fox for defamation. Stefanik flees from stage<\/a><\/h2>\n<hr style=\"margin-left: -1em;\" \/>\n<li>\n<h2>Slate: <a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/news-and-politics\/2025\/08\/democrats-republican-texas-california-gerrymandering-war.html\" target=\"_blank\">How Democrats Should Actually Respond to Republicans\u2019 Attempts to Rig Voting Maps<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&#8230;<br \/>\nThis means that California\u2019s maps would <em>automatically<\/em> respond to red states\u2019 partisan gerrymanders. For example, if Texas implemented its new and more aggressive partisan gerrymander, California\u2019s new and automatic redistricting system would respond in kind. The result would be that, as much as practically possible, California\u2019s system would neutralize Texas\u2019 partisan gerrymander.<\/p>\n<p>So far, this might sound like exactly what Newsom has proposed. But there is a critical difference. The problem with the governor\u2019s approach is that because it is an ad hoc political response to Texas\u2019 gerrymander, it virtually guarantees a continued race to the bottom. Texas will be heavily gerrymandered, and so will California. And so will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/the-other-states-threatening-action-as-texas-and-californias-redistricting-feud-intensifies\" target=\"_blank\">the next red state and the next blue state<\/a>, and potentially on and on. That\u2019s not the best outcome we can hope for. Representation of Democrats in Texas and Republicans in California matters too.
