Katelyn Jetelina @ Your Local Epidemiologist: Covid-19 six years later
Six years ago today, I put my baby in a camping carrier, strapped her on, opened my laptop on my dining room table, and started typing as fast as I could. I couldn’t believe how little communication existed that was timely, understandable, and actionable, with the humility and honesty the public deserved. So I tried to fill that gap, bringing my fellow faculty, staff, and students along for the Covid-19 journey in real time, signing every email the same way: Love, Your Local Epidemiologist. I told my husband I would only have to do this for six weeks. Surely someone would fill this gap… The rest is a blur (with many lessons learned along the way.)
…
Covid-19 is no longer the third leading cause of death. In fact, it now carries roughly the same severity as the flu. While flu is nothing to brush off, this virus not being a top killer is genuine relief.

Paul Krugman: A Whiff of Stagflation
Inflation was rising and job growth stalled even before the Iran War
Jerome Powell doesn’t want you to use the S-word. In the press conference following the Federal Reserve’s decision to leave interest rates unchanged, he argued that current economic difficulties aren’t enough to warrant that description:
What we have is some tension between the goals and we’re trying to manage our way through it. It’s a very difficult situation, but it’s nothing like what they faced in the 1970s and I reserve stagflation for that — the word — for that period. Maybe that’s just me.

Dissent in Bloom: The Feds Knew Everything About Epstein. They Buried It Anyway.
A 69-page DEA file, $378 million in suspicious bank transfers, and the DOJ official personally blocking Congress from seeing any of it.
Heather Cox Richardson: Letters from an American – March 19, 2026
After yesterday’s revelation that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is blocking the release of a memo related to a Drug Enforcement Agency investigation into sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and 14 co-conspirators, Attorney General Pam Bondi added more evidence to the idea that the DOJ is engaged in covering up the relationship between members of the Trump administration, including President Donald J. Trump himself, and Epstein.

404 Media: Mapping Google’s Unmappable City
North Oaks, Minnesota is the only city in the United States that is not on Google Maps Street View. YouTube documentarian Chris Parr, who grew up not too far from North Oaks, set out to change that earlier this year. For a brief few days, he literally put North Oaks on the map. And then it was gone again.
“It’s known by Minnesotans as a place where executives and CEOs live,” Parr told 404 Media. “Famously Walter Mondale is from North Oaks, but also like United Healthcare executives and Target executives.”

Rolling Stone: Afroman Triumphs in Wild ‘Lemon Pound Cake’ Lawsuit Filed by Cops
In the summer of 2022, members of the Sheriff’s Department in Adams County, Ohio, raided Afroman’s home with a warrant on suspicion of drug trafficking and kidnapping. After busting down his door and ransacking his home, armed officers found neither drugs nor any signs of a kidnapping. No charges were filed.
Following the debacle, Afroman turned lemons into lemonade, transforming footage of the botched raid into a series of music videos that have gone viral — particularly one titled “Lemon Pound Cake” that shows one of the officers pausing in the rapper’s kitchen to eye a tasty treat on the counter.
That video, as well as social media posts the artist made with the raid footage, became the subject of a lawsuit filed the following year by seven cops who claimed Afroman (real name Joseph Foreman) used footage of their faces without their consent (a misdemeanor violation in Ohio) and sued him on civil grounds for invasion of privacy.
On Wednesday, following a three-day trial in which Afroman defended his art in court, the jury sided with the rapper on all counts and disagreed with the cops’ claims that he owed them a combined $3.9 million in damages. Shortly after the trial ended, the rapper posted a video to his social media of the judge reading the verdict in court.
