… trying to ‘unbury the lede’
Steven Zeitchik @ Hollywood Reporter:
The studio releasing Alex Gibney’s new Elon Musk documentary Musk is finding itself unable to buy an ad on the biggest social platforms.
YouTube, TikTok and Meta have all turned down the trailer for the Oct. 9 doc, citing “political” content. X won’t even take Bleecker Street’s calls.
So much for free speech.

Russia’s nuclear doomsday bunkerOn the side of a remote mountain in the Urals is a gateway. Troops guard it around the clock from a machinegun turret.
It is the entrance to one of Russia’s most secret facilities.
From here, President Putin has revived a Cold War programme to launch retaliatory nuclear strikes on the West. The base is a giant underground command centre that can survive an attack by American bunker-busting bombs. It is a doomsday strategy intended to guarantee mutually assured destruction if Russia suffers a nuclear strike.

‘Zombified’ C.D.C., Hobbled by Cuts, Struggles to Fulfill Scientific MissionThe agency has lost its independence and nearly a third of its staff, as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and associates have tightened control.
For decades, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was the undisputed global leader in public health. Its scientists helped train health officials worldwide. In the United States, it was the primary source of guidance for prevention and treatment of diseases, including diabetes, H.I.V. and the seasonal flu.
But after a year and a half in the cross hairs of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s drive to remake public health policy, the agency is a skeleton of the powerhouse it was.
The Trump administration’s widespread layoffs in early 2025 cut 18 percent of the C.D.C.’s staff. But new personnel data, compiled by a group of former federal scientists and reported here for the first time, indicate that the agency’s staff has dwindled far more, as large numbers of employees retired or resigned. As of May 2026, the C.D.C. had 30 percent fewer employees than it did before the layoffs, the data show.

Letters from an American – September 26, 2026Trump’s war on the free press is continuing. …
…On Thursday, in a scathing letter, a key prosecutor in the case of the six people charged with felonies after a protest outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Broadview detention facility in Illinois—the Broadview Six—resigned under protest.
…Perhaps of more concern to Trump is the report yesterday from Julia Jacobs of the New York Times that whistleblowers who used to work at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts say that six months ago, Trump loyalists running the center cancelled plans to fix the leaking roof they now claim is so dangerous the center must be closed and repaired. Those repairs, they say, will require the addition of Trump’s name to the building.
The whistleblowers claim that the center’s board put the $1.4 million that had been allocated to fix the roof toward Trump’s repainting of the building’s columns, which cost $4.4 million.
