… trying to ‘unbury the lede’

[ICE] agents dressed as construction workers fired at a car with a child in it.
An agency that was created to protect Americans after 9/11 has put us under siege. It cannot continue to exist. Period.
On Thursday evening in the Marble Hill section of New York, a five-year-old boy sat in the back seat of his father’s car, while a federal agent dressed up like a construction worker fired seven rounds into it. One of those rounds struck the father in the neck, just below his left ear. A neighbor who watched from his building threw himself to the floor because the shots were coming his way.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says the man has a criminal record and gang ties. Maybe. Maybe not. Americans don’t really believe anything DHS says anymore, not after the Department insisted that Americans its agents had killed in cold blood were “terrorists,” even though recorded video showed anyone with an eyeball that those were peaceful protesters who’d been murdered by their government. …
I spent most of my career building DHS. … I’ve defended that department, funded it, reorganized it and, on more than one occasion, apologized for its unacceptable transgressions.
So believe me when I say that its most notorious agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, should be abolished.

Zelenskyy furious as Trump announces deal to buy Russian diesel…
“70% of Americans support Ukraine. Propping up Putin’s war economy is morally wrong as he uses that money to bomb cities,” congressman Don Bacon, a Nebraska Republican, wrote on X. “The President’s policies towards Russia and Ukraine are failures. We need moral clarity not moral ambiguity.”

Letters from an American – October 9, 2026Late Wednesday afternoon, Dana Mattioli, Drew Hinshaw, Rebecca Ballhaus, and Joe Parkinson of the Wall Street Journal reported on the tawdry grifting of Kimberly Guilfoyle, former fiancee of Donald Trump Jr. and now Trump’s ambassador to Greece. Panicked about how much money she owed on her American Express credit card, Guilfoyle reached out to Eric Deters, who wanted the administration’s help with tax and legal issues. …
…In an interview with far-right podcaster Jack Posobiec on board the USS Abraham Lincoln on Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appealed to the MAGA religious base with a promise that the execution of former Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the mass shooter who killed 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, would be public. An active Army officer when he committed the murders, Hasan was court-martialed and sentenced to death.
“We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public, because people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Hegseth said. CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen noted that a livestream of the execution would be a rallying cry for terrorists.
The backlash against Hegseth’s plan has been swift and bipartisan.
