See How El Niño Is Washing Ashore in California
In the coming days, sea levels off Southern California are expected to begin rising by half a foot or more and then stay elevated for months, as an enormous pulse of wave energy generated by El Niño travels up the coast, lifting the water as it goes.

…
Sea levels have already been abnormally high for months because of how warm the Pacific has been. Warm water occupies more volume than cool water does, and that’s one way human-caused climate change is raising the ocean’s height globally.

The President’s decline is in a freefall
At 3:54 pm, with Marine One’s engine roaring behind him, Donald Trump walked out of the White House and began yelling about the stone beneath his feet. For the next 6 minutes and 52 seconds, we watched him struggle to answer questions and follow the conversation. Asked about a possible third impeachment, he joked that he was “getting good at it,” then claimed he could have impeached Hillary Clinton. Private citizens cannot be impeached. Whether he confused impeachment with criminal prosecution or simply lost track of the question, either possibility is deeply concerning. Moments after telling voters to “pretend I’m running,” he turned toward the construction site and became fixated on a crane. The entire world is at risk with him in the Oval Office. What we are watching cannot be normalized.

Letters from an American – October 3, 2026On Saturday, October 3, the Power to the People festival, organized by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, took over the stage at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. On two stages were rock, alternative, and hip hop royalty, joining together to remind Americans of their agency to change the future and reclaim American democracy.
…Curiously, today’s concert took place on the anniversary of the day that Woody Guthrie died in 1967. And eighty-six years after he wrote “This Land is Your Land,” his work continues to echo.
“This is still America,” Springsteen told the audience of the administration’s tyranny, “and this will not stand.”
